Polar Plunge set for Jan. 1

An annual tradition will return to the Waupaca area on New Year’s Day.

The Waupaca Chain o’ Lakes Polar Bear Plunge will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 1, on Lime Kiln Lake at Becker Marine, E1208 County Trunk Q, Waupaca.

As in the past, the plunge will benefit the Waupaca Fire Department. People can donate to their favorite firefighter and the top two will have to take the plunge or buy their way out with their own personal donation.

A sign-up board can be found at the Wheelhouse, which serves as the Polar Plunge headquarters. Doors will open at 10 a.m. There is a $5 registration fee.

Commemorative long-sleeved T-shirts are available, with all proceeds to be donated to the fire department.
