Library hosts Downton Abbey Tea Party

Event features hat contest, lessons in etiquette

The Sturm Memorial Library in Manawa will host “A Downton Abbey Tea Party” from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23.

The sixth and final season of the popular PBS TV series about the Crawley family living in post Edwardian England is now running on Sunday nights and the tea party is a way to celebrate the series and ponder life post Downton Abbey.

The tea party will include a trivia contest, a hat contest, a lesson in tea etiquette and predictions on the fate of the characters in the series.

People are encouraged to dress in period costume and to decorate a hat or wear a hat that resembles the time period. Attendees can also bring their favorite tea cup and share the history of the cup with others.

Period dress and hats are not required and everyone is welcome to attend even if they have not been following the show.

Tea, finger sandwiches and shortbread cookies will be served. Registration is not necessary for this program.
