Pond Hockey Classic has new home

Fat bike race also planned in Waupaca

The fourth annual O’so Pond Hockey Classic will return to the ice of Waupaca’s Mirror Lake Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 30-31.

The tournament takes hockey back to its origins, as teams will compete against the elements of late January Wisconsin weather as well as their opponent.

All teams are guaranteed three games and can register for open, 40-plus and women’s divisions. Players must be at least 18 years of age.

Round-robin games will be Jan. 30, followed by playoff games the following day.

Local volunteers will create four 150-by-75-foot rinks just off the boat landing on Junction Street in Waupaca. The tournament was previously held on Shadow Lake.

A heated tent will be available on the lake with food and beverages vended by the Waupaca Area Chamber of Commerce.

In addition to the tournament, the inaugural O’so FatBike Race will be held Jan. 30. The race will start and end at the Waupaca High School soccer fields on King Road. The event, which starts at 1 p.m., includes one-and two-hour long on the approximately 5-mile-long course.

An awards ceremony will be held at the pond hockey warming tent on Mirror Lake following the races.
