Malzhan, Shirley A.

Shirley A. Malzhan, age 87, of Weyauwega, was called home to her heavenly Father, on Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at ThedaCare Medical Center of Waupaca.

She was born in Muskegan, Michigan on October 21, 1928 to the late Milton and Lena (Schultz) Oakes Sr. Shirley graduated from Ripon High School. She was united in marriage to Rhinold Malzhan on October 8, 1947 in Ripon, WI. She worked as a clerk for Oaks Candy Store for three years, at Ahern’s Men’s Clothing Store in Oshkosh for a couple of years, but primarily for the family business, Malzhan Plumbing and Heating, where she did bookkeeping for 50 years plus. Shirley was a member of the Homemaker’s Club, her church choir, served as Sunday School superintendent and Vacation Bible School coordinator. Her hobbies included reading, crocheting, puzzles, gardening and singing.

Shirley would like to let you know that her mission here is done. She received a call for an appointment from which she will not be returning, a reunion with family and friends she has not seen in a long time, but most of all with her Lord and Savior. Her new mission takes her to a wonderful place where she will be socializing, dancing, gardening and reading to her heart’s content. Music, laughter and love are guaranteed.

We want to let her know that she did a phenomenal job as a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend and we will miss her more than words can express. She leaves behind her husband, Rhinold of Weyauwega; daughters, Bonnie (Tim) Beck of Waupaca and Florida and Lisa Malzhan of Weyauwega; sons, Brett (Rene) Malzhan of Nebraska; and Rob Malzhan (significant other, Carrie Seimer) of Ripon; grandchildren: Kim Kautzman, Holly (Joe) Troiber, and Christy (Scott) Collin; Justin Harrington, Lindsey (Mike) Zimmer and Brady Malzhan; Alyssa Reetz and Mitch Malzhan. She is also survived by one sister, Jean (Darrell) Brey of Ripon and Florida; great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Shirley was preceded in death by three brothers: Greg Oakes, Ralph Oakes and Milton Oakes.

The funeral service was held at 11 a.m., Monday, February 29, 2016 at Trinity Lutheran Church of Waupaca with Pastor Andy Behrendt officiating. Visitation was held Sunday evening from 4 until 7 p.m. at the Maple Crest Funeral Home of Waupaca and again on Monday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial followed in the Barton Cemetery in the Town of Farmington.

We will remember her sweet spirit and smile, her warmth, her energy, her love for God, life, family and friends. She worked very hard all her life. She made a difference in the lives of many. We invite you to join us and celebrate her life together.
