Josephine Grace Nelson, age 89, passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 2, 2016 at Crossroads Care Center in Waupaca.
She was born in Cobbtown, WI on August 29, 1926 to the late Joseph and Frieda (Voss) Cartwright. On April 24, 1954, she was united in marriage to Carl Nelson and he preceded her in death on December 6, 1980. Jo was a long-time member of Farmington Lutheran Church. She worked as a knitter for Zwicker’s Knitting Mills, enjoyed arts and crafts, fishing trips with Carl, and attending the Nelson family reunions. Jo was affectionately referred to as mom, granny and tonta.
Survivors include three children: daughter, Jean (Jerry) Schwarten of Burlington, WI; son, Dennis (Donna) of Kensett, AR; and daughter, Dianna Nelson of Amherst; a sister, Irene Sauberlich; sister-in-law, Elaine Cartwright; 10 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, 26 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly. In death, she is reunited with her parents; husband; brother, LaVern Cartwright; sisters, Bernice Sauberlich and Sylvia Durrant; son-in-law, Wayland Stine; niece, Judy Schroeder; granddaughter, Carla Metcalf; brothers-in-law, Lee Sauberlich, Howerde Sauberlich and Roger Durrant; and grandson-in-law, John Metcalf.
The funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. on Friday, March 11, 2016 at the Maple Crest Funeral Home of Waupaca, Pastor Mark Sabin officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will take place at Ogdensburg Park Cemetery.
