Deer hunt at Waupaca airport

Hunt runs Friday through Sunday

A targeted deer hunt will take place on the grounds of Waupaca Municipal Airport-Brunner Field.

It will begin in late afternoon on Friday, March 11 and end at dusk on Sunday, March 13.

Local law enforcement officials are aware of the hunt.

All harvested animals will be processed locally and donated to local food banks.

Those not harvested will be disposed of an in appropriate manner.

The airport applied for and received the authorization of the Wisconsin Bureau of Aeonautics and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to have the hunt to control the nuisance and ensure the safety of airport users.

Due to a significant increase in the wildlife population, particularly deer, there has been an increase in the wildlife numbers grazing and foraging on airport property, as well as crossing the runways.

During the past couple of years, there has been a growing concern about how the population threatens the safety of pilots, passengers and aircraft at Waupaca’s airport.

Those who have questions may contact Airport Manager Beth Andersen at 920-867-3070.
