Bemis, Alice Mae

Alice Mae (Clapps) Bemis, age 82, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 14, 2016 at Girlieā€™s Manor in Mt.Horeb, a place she was proud to call home.

She was born on October 18, 1933 in Waupaca, the only child of Edgar and Adeline (Rounds) Clapps. Alice was united in marriage to Donald H. Bemis on December 9, 1950 in St. Mary Magdelen Catholic Church in Waupaca. Alice happily followed her husband throughout his military career, often remarking that those were the best days of their lives. She was employed with the Bank of Madison, which later became the Affiliated Banks, and then M & I banks for 35 years. She continued her career working for Middleton Community Bank and also for the Antiques Mall in Mt. Horeb before retiring.

Alice is survived by her daughters, Romona (Jimmy) Fedderly of Mountain Home, Ark., and Joan (Thomas) Laufenberg of Waunakee; 11 grandchildren: Lloyd and Paul Bemis, Christin (Steve Bogust) Bemis, Kate (Lonnie) Sanderson, Jake Bemis, Brian (Charity) Doyle, Catherine (Erik) Glass, Brian McIntosh, Addie (Jeremy) Pittman, Donald (Jen Schrader) Laufenberg, Allison (Zachary) Miller and 19 great-grandchildren with one on the way. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Don, in 2005; sons, Thomas, in 2011, and Gordon, in 2016; son-in-law, Frederick John Acuff; and grandson, Dusty Acuff.

A Life Celebration and visitation will be held at Gunderson West Funeral Home, 7435 University Ave., Middleton, from 4:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 19, 2016. Burial will be in Veterans Memorial Cemetery in King, Wisc.
