Sidney E. Davidson, 1934-2016, New Berlin, 82, died Thursday, March 17, 2016 at the Seasons Hospice after a prolonged battle with Cancer.
He leaves his wife of 57 years, Doris (Bastian) Davidson; his daughter, Debra Lowder (James); his son Terry Davidson (Colleen); three grandchildren, Connor Davidson, Griffin Lowder and McKenzie Davidson and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by sisters, Verna Hansen and Iona (Schmidt) Parrish. He is preceded in death by brothers Justin Davidson, Arlen Davidson, Arden Davidson, Daryl Davidson and sister Enid Cechvala.
Sid was born in Waupaca on February 3, 1934 to the late David and Sarah (nee Potratz) Davidson. He spent his youth involved in all types of athletics, lettering in several sports including football, basketball, track and baseball. Following high school he joined the Marine Corps and went through basic training but decided to pursue college first. He went on to play football at Stevens Point and eventually transferred to UW-Oshkosh where he met and married Dorie, the love of his life. He served in the U.S. Army for two years and then went to work for the Food and Drug Administration in Chicago, Syracuse, Buffalo, and finally Milwaukee. He retired in 1991 after 34 years of service in the FDA.
In retirement he enjoyed wintering in Florida and watching his grandchildren grow up. He was privileged to help with the annual Waupaca High School Grand Reunion started by his brother Arlen and others, connecting with many old friends and making new ones.
A service will be held in Waupaca on Sunday, April 10th from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Maple Crest Funeral Home, N2620 WI-22, Waupaca, WI 54981. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Society for Melanoma Research at societymelanomaresearch.org
