Lowe, Russell E. Sr.

Russell E. Lowe Sr., age 88, of Waupaca, WI passed away on Monday, March 28, 2016 at the Wisconsin Veterans Home under the care of hospice.

Russ was born in Merrill, WI on July 9, 1927, the son of the late Ralph and Eleanor (Hamsing) Lowe. On July 16, 1949, Russ married Barbara Jane Brandherm at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Menasha and she preceded him in death on July 9, 2015. Russ served in the US Navy during WW II. He taught Graphic Design at UW-Oshkosh, and later in life he became a Deacon in the Catholic Church serving at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Waupaca.

Russ is survived by his children: Constance VanZummeren, Waupaca; Barbara Lowe, Milwaukee; Russell Lowe Jr., Eau Claire; Tom Lowe, Waupaca; Richard (Sheila) Lowe, Waupaca; Mary (Tim) Angsten, Waupaca and Peter (Cyndie) Lowe, Sherwood; 24 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane; a son, Donald; a grandson, Kevin Charlson; a great-great grandson, Abraham and his sister, Maxine Lowe.

The Funeral Mass will be on Friday, April 1 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church, Waupaca with Father Amalraj Roche and Father Larry Canavera, presiding. Military rites will follow the mass. Visitation will be on Friday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of mass at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are greatly appreciated to the Waupaca Special Olympics in Russ’s name.

The family wishes to thank the entire staff at the Wisconsin Veterans Home for the wonderful care given to their father and to Theda Care Hospice and Sister Martha for their care and concern. Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca is assisting the family with arrangements.
