Comets drop conference opener

Tigers hold Waupaca to four hits

The Comets took a 2-1 lead into the fourth inning against Wrightstown April 7, but the Tigers scored the game’s final 10 runs and returned home with an 11-2 win.

Wrightstown came up with a run in the top of the first inning, but Waupaca tied the game in the bottom half of the frame and took the lead with a run in the second.

However, Wrightstown came up with six runs in teh fourth, two in the sixth and two in the seventh.

Caroline Ogden had two of Waupaca’s four hits and drove in a run, while Kat Otter added a triple and Victoria Nowak had Waupaca’s other hit.

Brooke Linsmeier, Makayla Neinas and Taylor Guns each had three of Wrightstown’s 15 hits.

Neinas went the distance to get the win on the mound, while Alyssa Engebretson took the loss.

* In Central Wisconsin-8 Conference softball games from April 7, Weyauwega-Fremont and Iola-Scandinavia remained undefeated. W-F handed Amherst a 9-2 loss, while the Thunderbirds needed only five innings to top Wittenberg-Birnamwood 12-2. Manawa’s home game with Pacelli was postponed and will be made up at a later date.
