Spanish Club’s trip rescheduled

Guatamala visit set for April

The Iola-Scandinavia School Board has resolved the Spanish trip issue.

The Spanish Club’s trip to Guatamala will take place April 4-12, 2017. The board made the announcement at its April 11 meeting.

The trip had been previously scheduled for June 7-19, 2017, but coaches objected because the trip conflicted with softball and baseball state tournaments.

The discussion began in February, when the board approved delaying the trip until June 19, 2017. The board re-approved that decision at its March 14 meeting.

After meeting in closed session on personnel matters, the board reconvened and the issue was brought back to the table. The issue was then tabled until the April 11 board meeting.

“We had a collaborative meeting,” said Board President Kristen Hoyord.

The meeting included Hoyord, District Administrator David Dyb, Spanish teacher Jessica Wennesberg, along with softball and baseball coaches.

According to Hoyord, the group came to a mutual agreement on the date change.

In other business, the board approved staff requests, including a leave of absence for Amy Anaya for the 2016-17 second semester, and Wennesberg’s resignation as high school volleyball coach.

The resignation of Johnathan Turba, choral director, was also approved, effective at the end of the 2015-16 school year. He plans to join the Norbertine Order at St. Norbert Abbey, in De Pere, to begin the process of becoming a priest.
