Alton AmundsonAlton “Tony” Amundson, age 90, of Iola, died Thursday, April 21, 2016 at Comforts of Home in Iola.

Alton was born in Iola, Wisconsin on May 31, 1925, a son of the late Esther (Peterson) and Alfred Amundson. He married Donna Stoltenberg on August 6, 1949 at the North New Hope Lutheran Church. She survives. A WWII Veteran, Alton served from July 1943 to March 1946 in the U.S. Navy stationed in the Pacific Theater at Pearl Harbor. He worked most of his life as a carpenter. First working for Harlan & Harlan in Lake Bluff, IL building homes for 16 years and then for Cooper Stair Company in Mundelein, IL for 14 years. While working for Cooper Stair Company, he did the layout and installation of the exact replica of the original staircase railing in the Illinois Governor’s Mansion. After returning to Iola, Tony worked for Faldet Farms for 20 years. He was a member of the Chicago Regional Council of Carpenters, VFW Post 8741- Libertyville, IL. and American Legion Post 14 – Iola.

He is survived by wife, Donna Amundson, of Iola; daughter, Susan (James) Hardwick, of Kent, OH.; son, Tom (Jean) Amundson, of Lindenhurst, IL and daughter-in-law, Mary Amundson, of Madison. Tony is also survived by: grandchildren: Bryan (Lori) Amundson, Christa (Jason) Scheunenmann, Laura Hardwick, David (Amber) Hardwick, Tony Amundson, Alan (Kathryn) Amundson, and Drew Amundson; great-grandchildren, Sierra and Sawyer. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by: a son, Tim Amundson and a sister, Jeanette Olson.

Funeral Service was held at North New Hope Lutheran Church at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 25, 2016 with Reverend Michael Peuse officiating. A visitation was held Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Interment is in North New Hope Lutheran Cemetery, Town of New Hope, Wisconsin with full military honors.
