Students win Smokey the Bear

Weyauwega firefighters teach safety

Each year, the Weyauwega Fire Department shares the story of Smokey the Bear with the kindergarten students and their families to coincide with the wildland fire season.

There is a backpack with Smokey the Bear and the story of Smokey, which goes home with each student overnight to share with their family. Each student also receives a coloring book about Smokey.

Once Smokey has visited all the students’ homes, a random drawing is held, and some students get to keep Smokey the Bear and the backpack.

Among this year’s winners are Tyson Quick, who attends St. Peter Lutheran School in Weyauwega, and Nickolas Olson-Groh, who is a student at Weyauwega Elementary School.
