Waupaca boys track takes first

Comet girls place third at Vic-Tree Invite

Waupaca and Rosholt won boys’ and girls’ championships, respectively, May 5 at the Vic-Tree Invitational at Waupaca High School.

The Comets also competed May 3 at a five-team meet in Clintonville.

Christian Overman and Brandon Anderson won two events for the Comets at the Vic-Tree Invitational. Overman won the boys’ 110- and 300- meter hurdles (15.27, 42.35), while Anderson won the 100- and 200-meter dashes (11.48, 23.33).

The Comets girls also had first-place finishes from Michelle Petkovsek in the 800-meter run (2:29.41), Avrey Simonson in the triple jump (33 feet, 8 3/4 inches) and the 1,600-meter relay team (4:10.18).

Team scores for the boys were Waupaca (180), Rosholt (118.5), Wautoma (115), Wrightstown (107), Pacelli (70), Wittenberg-Birnamwood (28) and Tri-County (25.5). Team scores for the girls were Rosholt (144.5), Wittenberg-Birnamwood (130.5), Waupaca (88), Tri-County (84.5), Wautoma (80), Wrightstown (68) and Pacelli (67.5).

Firsts for the Comets in Clintonville went to Tatiana Sotka in the girls’ 100 (13.0); Simonson in the girls’ 200 and 400 (27.06, 1:02.9); Blake Orr in the boys’ shot put (49 feet, 4 inches); Derrick Rotta in the boys’ discus (141 feet, 3 inches); and Jake Piencikowski in the boys’ pole vault (11 feet).

Waupaca hosted New London, Little Chute and Xavier May 9 and will head to Oconto Falls Saturday, May 14, for the North Eastern Conference meet. Events are scheduled to start at 10 a.m.
