Kuehnl, Roland James
Jim was born in Appleton, WI on November 22, 1937 to Mildred (Karweick) Kuehnl and Roland L. Kuehnl. He grew up in Appleton graduating from Appleton High School. He proudly served in the United States Navy for four years. In 1966 he proudly became a firefighter, joining his father at the Appleton Fire Dept. While serving on the Appleton Fire Department he earned his Associate Degree in Fire Science. In later years Jim was an Instructor for the Fire Science Program at Fox Valley Technical Institute in Appleton. Also, during the course of his career, he studied at Emmetsburg, MD, training for and becoming a member of the newly formed hazardous material team for the Fire Department. He retired from the Appleton Fire Dept in 1990 as a Captain. In 1963 he married Marjorie Smith, together they had two beautiful daughters.
Jim is survived by his wife of 30 years, Elaine (Tooley) Kuehnl; his daughters, Wanda Schnetzer (Rick Reese) and Patricia Seidl; his son-in-law, Todd Schnetzer (Betsy); and his three grandchildren, Ryan Pitsch, Arianna and Taylor Seidl. He is further survived by his sisters, Nancy Giebel (d Tom), Marilyn Anunson (Bruce), and Janice Flaherty (Kevin); his brother, Michael Kuehnl (Trish); his cousin, Dick Karweick (his brother by another mother as they referred to themselves); and numerous nieces and nephews. He proceeded in death by his parents and brother, John C. Kuehnl-Vietnam veteran. Jim is further survived by Elaine’s family, TJ (Elaine) Tooley, Meme (Gene) Draeger, Georgine (Larry) Prickette, Patricia (Paul Murphy) Williams, Wm (Marti) Tooley, Pete (Cher) Tooley, Joe Tooley, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by very special friends, Jack (who joined the AFD the same day as Jim) and Marilyn Kottke and their son Mark who became forever friends.
A celebration of life memorial will be held on June 23, at Greenville Lions Park, in Greenville, Wisconsin at 2:00 p.m. Stories will be shared (he loved them) and lunch will be served. Memorials made may go to Wild Instincts Animals rescue in Rhinelander or Regional Hospice. Range Funeral Service & Crematory, Ketola-Burla Funeral Home, Ironwood, MI, is handling the arrangements.
