Public Works Week in Waupaca

Coloring contest winners announced

The week of May 15 was National Public Works Week, and Waupaca’s Public Works Department continued its coloring contest tradition with second-grade students.

This year, the department’s celebration included something new.

“We went to the school and showed the kids our cool equipment,” said Justin Berrens, the city’s director of public works.
That took place on Wednesday, May 18.

He said the students loved it and the teachers thought it was great.

Berrens said They learned a little bit about what the Public Works Department does and met some of the members of Waupaca’s crew.

In the annual coloring contest, one winner per class was chosen, and each winner received a Dairy Queen gift card.

This year’s winners are Alexandra Johnson, Brogan Hirte, Colin Lockwood, Jacob Durrant, Chloe Nelsen, Aiden Sherman, Makenley Christensen and Maya Collin.

Their work is on display in the lobby between city hall and the Waupaca Area Public Library.

All the second graders received a coupon for a free Dilly Bar.

Berrens extends his appreciation to Ald. Paul Mayou, owner of the local Dairy Queen, for his support.
