Manawa prepares for Mid-Western Rodeo

Little Wolf students painting store windows

By Jane Myhra

It is rodeo time in Manawa.

The first visible signs are the painted windows.

Along with indoor decorating, area businesses prepare for the rodeo by painting a rodeo theme on their windows. Many of the painters are present or past students of Little Wolf High School.

Choosing artists for the window décor was an easy job this year for Remington’s Quality Foods. Two of the store’s employees – Sebastian Mikkelson and Megan Littleton – were members of the Art Team that placed first at state.

Just a few months ago, the Little Wolf Junior/Senior High School Art Team brought home the trophy for first-place overall against 53 other schools. The team also placed first in Critical Thinking, third in Quiz Bowl and earned other individual awards.

During the State Youth Art Month display, Mikkelson won the grand prize with an intaglio print titled “Main St.” He won a trip to New York City to visit art museums there with one parent and his art teacher.

“It is an honor that we have such experts painting the windows for us,” said Diane Knorr, store manager.

Mikkelson and Littleton, who are both seniors at LWJSHS, chose a Jungle Book movie theme for the store’s windows. The slogan is “Have a Wild Time at the Rodeo.”

The Manawa Lions Club hosts the Mid-Western Rodeo on June 30 and July 1-2.
