Police make child porn bust

Notebooks found in a Manawa student’s locker led police to arrest a Clintonville man.

Jason M. Phillips. 38, Clintonville, is charged with felony possession of child pornography and misdemeanor possession of marijuana.

He is currently in custody on a $10,000 cash bond. He faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted of possession of child pornography.

The investigation began shortly after a Weyauwega student missed the last day at school, and staff cleaned out her locker.

According to the criminal complaint, they found two notebooks containing what appeared to be lists of pornographic video titles.

The notebooks were given to Weyauwega police.

While most of the titles did not raise concerns, some seemed to indicate the videos involved underaged girls.

The student told Weyauwega police she mixed up some of her father’s notebooks with her own. She also said her father contacted her and asked that she return the notebooks, the complaint says.

Clintonville Police Officers Anthony Arrieta and Eric Krause executed a search warrant at Phillips’ apartment on July 21.

They reported finding more than 2,000 computer discs, eight of which allegedly contain child pornography.

Phillips also allegedly downloaded scenes from suspected child porn and spliced them together to create his own films called “rarely legal.” He allegedly appeared on screen to introduce the clips.

The officers also reported finding a small amount of marijuana in the apartment.

While Krause was reviewing the confiscated items, Arrieta asked Phillips whether he had any child porn in his possession. He also showed him some of the titles from the notebooks.

Phillips said he may have downloaded some of those items in the past, but he would get rid of them if they involved underage girls, the complaint says.

After several questionable discs were found, Phillips reportedly said he meant to throw them away and was not into child porn anymore.
