UPDATE: 800 homes still without power

Iola, Ogdensburg areas hit hardest

Central Wisconsin Electric Cooperative reported more than 800 members without power in Waupaca County at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Rural areas around Iola and Ogdensburg have been hit the hardest.

In the town of Union, nearly 99 percent of all CWEC members are without electricity.

Nearly 400 homes have lost power in the town of Helvetia.

CWEC spokesman Mark Forseth attributed the power outages to the high winds that accompanied today’s storm.

“The high winds blew down trees, which took down poles and lines,” Forseth said. “It’s an absolute mess.”

CWEC anticipates power will be restored by the early morning hours on Thursday.

“The crews will work through the night to get everybody’s power restored,” Forseth said. “We try to fix the problems to get the most people restored to power right away.”

Area residents who have not reported that they lost power should call 1-800- 377-2932 right away.

“Contact CWEC if you have a medical condition that relies on electrical equipment,” Forseth said. “These people may need to rely on a friend or family member, but we will do our best to get their power restored.”
