Arson suspect arrested

Fernando Castillo, the 21-year-old arson suspect, was arrested Friday in St. Paul.

He remains in custody in Minnesota, awaiting extradition to Waupaca County.

The fire occurred on Wednesday afternoon at a home at E8975 Worm Road in the town of Lebanon.

Four cars, a motorcycle and a three-car garage were destroyed by the fire.

Castillo was charged Thursday, Aug. 4, with arson, reckless endangerment and felony criminal damage.

Detective Capt. Don Conat, with the Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office, reported that Castillo had a three-year relationship with a 19-year-old woman who lived at the Lebanon home. She had recently ended the relationship.

Authorities are looking for a can of black spray paint that the suspect used to paint threats on the garage doors. It may have been thrown out of the suspect’s vehicle when he fled the scene.

Anyone finding an can of black spray paint within several miles of Worm Road in Lebanon is asked to not handle the can and to contact the County Sheriff’s Office at 715-258-4466.
