Polar Bear quarterback Charlie Schabo completed 11 of 18 passes for 161 yards and two touchdown passes to Brock Young in Hortonville’s season opener Friday, Aug. 19 at home.

Meanwhile a rigid Hortonville defense held the Kaukauna Ghosts scoreless in all four quarters of non-conference play. The Polar Bear defense allowed only six first downs and 158 total yards in the game.

Hortonville got on the board early with a 61-yard pass completion from Schabo to Young.

Polar Bear defensive back Branden Vallafskey’s second quarter interception helped set up a 23-yard field goal by Jake Buhler to give Hortonville a 10-0 lead going into the half.

Schabo then connected again with Luker in the fourth quarter to score on a 15-yard touchdown pass. Buhler made the extra point to put the Polar Bears up 17-0 for the shutout.

Hortonville travels to Appleton East Friday, Aug. 26 for a non-conference game against the Patriots.

The Polar Bears will return home for their first conference matchup of the season against Oshkosh North at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2.
