New London girls defeat Shawano

By John Ruckdashel

The New London girls’ swim team won its first home meet of the year against the Shawano Hawks on Sept. 20.

New London came out on fire and took control in the early events and never looked back. New London won almost every event and was swimming with intensity. This resulted in many personal best swims.

Head coach Stacy Ruckdashel said the team is coming together. To beat Shawano 111-58 is a great feat. Younger girls are finding their natural event and stroke technique is improving every week. We now have a mix of solid upperclassmen and a good core of underclassmen that are starting to compete and earning varsity place points.

As the last third of the season approaches, New London girls are getting better and hopefully will peak at the right time. It is an exciting time to be a Bulldog swimmer. New London has one of the biggest teams around with 34 swimmers.

The New London team will compete again at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4 against Marinette at New London Aquatic and Fitness Center.
