By Holly Neumann

The Amherst Falcons defeated the Iola-Scandinavia Thunderbirds 42-14 Friday, Oct. 7, to clinch a share of the conference title for the third time in a row.

Chandler Benn scored two touchdowns and Josh Cisewski and Brandon Piotrowski added one each, sending the Falcons to the locker room with a 28-0 lead in the first half of the game.

Benn scored again early in the third quarter and with the extra point failing, the Falcons widened the gap to 34-0.

Iola-Scandinavia fumbled the ball on their next possession and Amherst’s Max Villnow was able to recover. On the next play, Josh Schude found the end zone for the Falcons and Marcus Glodowski scored the 2-point conversion putting the Falcons up 42-0.

With a running clock for the remainder of the game, Iola-Scandinavia was able to score twice in the final quarter of play.

Jon Bauer ran in the first touchdown for the T-Birds and Ben Cady later scored on a pass from Alex Sharp, to close out the scoring at 42-14.

Iola-Scandinavia will host Weyauwega-Fremont on Friday, Oct. 14, while Amherst travels to Wittenberg-Birnamwood in the final games of the regular season.
