Becker, Carol I. (Norby)

becker-carolCarol I. (Norby) Becker, age 95, of Iola, passed away Friday, October 28, 2016 at the Iola Living Assistance.

Carol was born February 27, 1921 in Iola, WI to the late Melvin and Cora (Forseth) Norby. On December 22, 1964, she married Harold (Harry) Becker at our Savior’s Lutheran Church. Carol was a life long resident of Iola. She attended a one room country school before graduating from the Iola High School in 1938. Carol graduated from the Normal School in Stevens Point in 1940. She graduated from Stevens Point University in 1960 with a Bachelor of Education degree. Carol was a grade school teacher for 39 years, mostly in the second grade. She taught in the Iola area for 16 years, Hammond, IN one year and taught the remaining 22 years in Waupaca. After retirement, Carol was involved in visiting the residents at the Iola Living Assistance. She did volunteer work for the church, as chairman of the mailing committee. For many years she volunteered her time working in the Tower for the Old Car Shows, and serving at the Norwegian Supper at the Winter Carnivals. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and was a daily visitor to the Crystal Cafe. Carol loved nature, especially birds and butterflies. She was a life long member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Iola.

Carol is survived by: her husband, Harold Becker; sisters-in-law, Ruth Johnson and Carolyn Becker; nephews, Dan (Tess) Johnson and Mark (Rose) Johnson; nieces: Lynn (Mark) Sprangers, Brenda (Carl) Schultz, Natalie Becker, Nikki (Chris) Olson, and Elizabeth (Matt) Hanson. She is further survived by many great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and younger sister Delores (Mrs. Leland Johnson); sister-in-law, Nancy Johnson; brothers-in-law, Gerald Becker, Howard Becker and Leland Johnson and stepmother, Eleanor Norby.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Iola with the Rev. Dennis Olson officiating. A Visitation will be held Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the Church. Burial will be in Our Saviors Lutheran Cemetery, Town of Scandinavia, Wisconsin.
