Drive-by shooting

New London suspect in custody

New London police arrested a 19-year-old man they suspect was involved in a shooting Tuesday afternoon.

Shortly before 12:30 p.m., a caller informed police that a shot had been fired at their vehicle.

Police were told that a passenger in a northbound vehicle fired a weapon at another northbound vehicle. The shot passed through the open driver’s side window of the caller’s vehicle, striking the passenger’s side.

The incident occurred on Shawano Street, just north of State Highway 54.

Nobody was injured in the incident and the suspect vehicle fled the scene.

A short time later, the suspect returned to the scene and was taken into custody.

Police transported the suspect to the Waupaca County jail.

New London Police Chief Jeffrey Schueter said the case will be referred to the district attorney’s office for charges of reckless endangerment with a weapon, attempted homicide, disorderly conduct and carrying a concealed weapon.

The investigation is ongoing and no further information is available at this time.

“The public is not in any known danger,” Schueter said.
