Our kids deserve community’s support

Wega-Fremont residents urged to vote yes

I would like to encourage all voters to take advantage of the opportunity to vote in the upcoming election.

With all the negative things going on in politics, I think there is a very positive opportunity for voters in the Weyauwega-Fremont School District on the upcoming ballot.

Over the past couple of years, the staff, community members and the Board of Education have worked hard to come up with a plan to bring our aging schools back in line with where they should be in a new era of technology and learning styles.

As we developed a plan to address the basic needs of heating and cooling in the district, it became evident that we do these projects once and we do them right.

Our students and staff in Weyauwega Elementary are enjoying a completely new HVAC system and many other improvements in the school that we were able to do without borrowing money.

It is now time to address the high school, which is mostly original from the 1960s, and make sure that students and staff at Fremont Elementary are safe with a more secure entry.

Our goal was to meet the needs of every student in our high school – science classrooms, technical education improvements, agriculture department upgrades, group/forum areas for all classes, fine arts and fitness, along with a new HVAC system.

We listened to and heard from everyone who gave input, and I believe we have a great plan.

Like most of you, I too felt a little sticker shock at the number of $21 million.

Today, I am very comfortable with that number.

As a board member, I know we will make sure that we will not exceed that as the question will state on the ballot.

Taxpayers in the Weyauwega-Fremont School District have benefited from a very low mill rate for many years.

This tremendous upgrade will bring that mill rate to about the state average for school districts.

I am a father of three children.

I believe my children, along with all of their friends and classmates, deserve for our community and me to provide them with average. The Weyauwega-Fremont School District is blessed with a talented administrative team and classrooms led by dedicated teachers.

It is our responsibility to give them the facility they need to provide a great education for all students in all areas.

I can’t think of anything better to invest in than kids.

Weyauwega-Fremont School District vote yes.
