Lyle Mork has raised enough money for new Christmas decorations in Iola.

He said he was encouraged to pursue the project by the late Chet Krause.

“I was at Chet’s office one day,” said Mork. “He sat me down and said we need new Christmas decorations for Main Street. He asked me if I would work on it, so I did.”

Through private donations, Mork raised enough money for new decorations not only for Main Street, but also at the American Legion Sheveland-Taylor Post 14 Veteran’s Memorial Park in Iola.

According to Mork, the old decorations were at least 25 years old.

The new decorations include angels, snowflakes and Christmas trees that have LED lighting.

“This was Chet’s project,” said Mork. “I hope people think of him and smile when they look at them.”
