Waupaca woman killed in crash

Driver loses control on I-39

A 72-year-old Waupaca woman was killed in a single-vehicle crash shortly before 8:45 a.m. Monday, in Stevens Point.

The Portage County Sheriff’s Office reported that Carol Paur was driving a Ford F-150 pickup truck northbound on Interstate 39 near the Janick Circle overpass when she lost control. The truck slid down into the east ditch and struck the highway fence and two trees.

Slippery conditions and excessive speed may have been factors in the crash, deputies reported.

The driver suffered severe trauma and was transported by ambulance to St. Michael’s Hospital, where she died from her injuries.

Her husband, Randolph Pauer, 61, was a passenger. He was also transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Stevens Point police closed the northbound on-ramp from U.S. Highway 10/State Highway 66 for about 30 minutes.

The crash remains under investigation.
