Q&A with Coach Tony Porath

By Erik Buchinger

New London softball coach Tony Porath answered nine questions previewing the 2017 Bulldogs’ season.

Number of years coaching the team: This will be my 23rd year coaching.

Returning varsity athletes: Leah Porath (12), McCoy Mix (12), Maddie Ruckdashel (12), Erin O’Connell (11), Faith Carothers (11) and Camry Bigalke (11).

Athletes to watch: I think all of our returning letter winners will be pretty good this year.

Team goals/expectations: Improve game by game, compete for the conference title and be a strong, competitive team in the playoffs.

Team’s strengths: I think we have some very good leaders on the team along with some very good returning players and hoping their experience will be a positive for our team.

Team’s weaknesses: We have some big holes to fill with the loss of our seniors from last year. Need to replace some of the power we lost from last year. We will also have new girls on the mound for us.

Teams to beat in conference: I think Shawano, Seymour and Menasha will be very competitive teams this year.

What you want your athletes to get out of this season: Great Memories, excitement, success and improvement from beginning of season to the end.

Why fans should be excited for this team: Great group of girls who work hard, show great sportsmanship and love to compete. Hopefully continue to have the success we have had in the past.
