A groundbreaking ceremony for the new athletic field at Waupaca High School was held Thursday, June 15.
The $2.3 million project will include a single synthetic-turf field that can be used by both the football and soccer teams, track surfacing and improvements, increased grandstand seating and more bleachers, increased parking capacity and construction of a shelter for concessions, restrooms and storage.
To help pay for the project, the district is seeking to raise $1 million.
Waupaca School District Administrator Greg Nyen said more than $400,000 has been raised already.
Three majors donors to the project are Waupaca Foundry, Farmers State Bank and First National Bank.
