Clintonville all-conference awards

11 Truckers make All-NEC

By Erik Buchinger

Eleven Clintonville High School athletes were named to All-North Eastern Conference teams this spring sports season.

The Truckers earned two First Team honors, two Second Team awards and seven Honorable Mentions.

Baseball

Jordan Koeppen (12, Second Team All-NEC): “Jordan was a consistent, clutch offensive threat and played flawless defense all season. He was a go-to guy and deserves this honor. He had a batting average of .321, on-base average was .438 and slugging percentage was .340.”

-Clintonville baseball head coach Ben Smejkal

Kyle Finger (11, Honorable Mention All-NEC): “Kyle has been our rock all season in the catching spot. He is definitely our team leader, and he got hot with the bat at the end of the season. I believe he can be one of the conference leaders again next year with a more consistent bat. He hit for a .320 batting average and had a .444 on-base percentage and a .500 slugging percentage.”

-Clintonville baseball head coach Ben Smejkal

Hunter Vollmer (12, Honorable Mention All-NEC): “Hunter was solid defensively and pitched well in many games. Unfortunately came up short and had no run support. He was a guy who could play multiple positions and worked hard to better himself. At the plate, Hunter hit .281 with a .328 on-base average and a .333 slugging percentage. As a pitcher, he had a 4-3 overall record with 25 strikeouts in 43 innings.”

-Clintonville baseball head coach Ben Smejkal

Colton Kluth (11, Honorable Mention All-NEC): “Colton will be one to watch next year. He was very good in key games, and I think he will be tough as a regular starter next year. He was our leading hitter in the end, and that was a surprise, but a good one. Colton hit .333 at the plate with an on-base percentage of .400 and slugging percentage of .463.”

-Clintonville baseball head coach Ben Smejkal

Softball

Bailey Mikkelson (9, Honorable Mention All-NEC): “Bailey joined the team this year as a freshman and made an immediate impact. She started the season very strong with her bat and proved to be one of our top outfielders as well. In conference, she batted .318 making her one of our top hitters in the lineup. I am excited to see how Bailey continues to grow in the years to come.”

-Clintonville softball head coach Stacey Van Domelen

Melany Lorge (11, Honorable Mention All-NEC): “Mel is an all around great team player. She is a strong first baseman and was our leading hitter this season, batting .327 with a team-high five doubles. Her leadership and communication skills proved to help this young team grow as the season progressed.”

-Clintonville softball head coach Stacey Van Domelen

Girls Soccer

Maddy Didier (12, Second Team All-NEC): “As Clintonville’s goalie for the last four years, Maddy demonstrated her desire to compete at the game’s most difficult position. Maddy Didier is unquestionably the best female soccer player to attend Clintonville High School. She helped the team record four shutouts this season with her excellent play, while being a mentor to her younger teammates. For the season, Didier made 194 saves – a school record. There hasn’t been a more talented goalie in the conference, and she certainly deserved better than Second Team. As coaches, we could not have asked for a better field leader or player. It has been exciting to watch Maddy become an outstanding soccer player, but an even better person.”

-Clintonville girls soccer head coach Roger Lupien

Catherine Morse (12, Honorable Mention All-NEC): “Catherine was a two-year starter for the Truckers as a defender and midfielder and voted as a team captain by her teammates. Catherine’s outstanding play this year was vital to the team’s success, as Clintonville started so many players with no varsity soccer experience. Her presence and willingness to help her teammates made for a memorable season. Her improved play was instrumental in Clintonville winning five of its last season regular games, as well as winning its first regional contest.”

-Clintonville girls soccer head coach Roger Lupien

Track & Field

Kara Pyatskowit (12, First Team All-NEC – 1,600-meter run, First Team All-NEC – 3200-meter run): “Kara is one of the hardest working athletes I have ever coached. She trains year round and is disciplined regarding all aspects of being an endurance athlete, including her nutrition, mental preparation and strength training. She will be running cross country and track for UW Oshkosh, and I expect she will become a leader in their program, too. Kara inspired her teammates and coaches from other teams with her bold, front-running style. She will be missed not only as an athlete but as a leader in our program.”

-Clintonville track & field head coach Jeff Crumbaugh

Allysin Booth (10, First Team All-NEC – 100-meter hurdles, Second Team All-NEC – 300-meter hurdles, Second Team All-NEC – high jump): “Allysin is remarkably talented at her craft. It is truly a joy to watch her run hurdles. She is quick, agile and has superb kinesthetic awareness. She earned All-State honors as a sophomore by finishing third. All eight other athletes in the finals were seniors, so her future is bright. She sets goals and works hard to achieve them.”

-Clintonville track & field head coach Jeff Crumbaugh

Lizzy Weatherwax (9, Honorable Mention All-NEC – 400-meter dash): “Lizzy is one of the best athletes to come through our program, perhaps ever. She combines gifted athleticism with a disciplined work ethic.  She was consistently ranked in the top three 800-meter runners in the state all season, but a foot injury before regionals cut her season short. She is eager to return next year and make it to the state championships.”
