Football camp held in Waupaca

First game slated for Aug. 18

By Greg Seubert

Practice doesn’t start for a month and the first game is still seven weeks down the road, but that didn’t keep more than 70 players from signing up for a week-long football camp at Waupaca High School.

The camp, held from June 26-30 for sophomores, juniors and seniors and June 26-29 for incoming freshmen, gave players a chance to brush up on their skills under coach Tom Noltner and his staff.

Teams can start practicing Tuesday, Aug. 1.

The Comets will tune up for the season Friday, Aug. 11, with a 4 p.m. scrimmage against Ripon and Omro in Ripon before opening the season at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 18, at Menasha.

Waupaca’s new artificial turf field is currently under construction at the school and is scheduled to be completed by the time the Comets host Shawano in the home opener Friday, Aug. 25.

Noltner said seven of the Comets’ nine regular-season games will be played on artificial turf this season. The only games on grass are at New London and Seymour.
