Children to perform musical

‘High School Musical Jr.’ opens in Waupaca

The Waupaca Children’s Theatre will stage “High School Musical Jr.” three times in July.

Performances are scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 25, at the Waupaca Rec Center; 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 26, at Waupaca Middle School; and 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Thursday, July 27, at the Waupaca Rec Center.

Admission is free.

“High School Musical Jr.” is adapted from the Disney animated film.

Characters Troy, Gabriella and students of East High must deal with issues of love, friends and family while balancing their classes and extra curricular activities.

On the first day after winter break, the Jocks, Brainiacs, Thespians and Skater Dudes all find their cliques.

Basketball team captain, Troy, discovers that the brainy Gabriella, a girl he met singing karaoke on his ski trip, has just enrolled at East High.

The couple causes an upheaval when they decide to audition for the high school musical.

Although many students resent the threat posed to the “status quo,” Troy and Gabriella’s alliance might just open the door for others to shine as well.

Cast members include Tyler Schroeder, Nina Skweres, Allison Wolff, Ayden Carey, Maddie Lusic, Brock Opperman, RJ Opperman, Jarah Strain, Parker Scherg, Riley Scherg, Brynn Skweres, Foster Skweres, Louisa Skweres and Addison Vergauwen.

The production is directed by Leah Fletcher with assistance by Jessica Fletcher and Mary Zelinski.

The Waupaca Children’s Theatre is part of the Waupaca Community Theatre and the Waupaca Fine Arts Festival.
