Pedestrian killed on State 54

Driver was 17-year-old girl

A 55-year-old Waupaca man was killed while walking on State Highway 54 in Farmington.

Shortly before 10 p.m. Friday, July 21, the Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a pedestrian walking in the middle of the road on State 54 east of County Trunk Q.

Two minutes later, another caller reported that the pedestrian had been struck by an eastbound sport utility vehicle.

The driver of the SUV was later identified as a 17-year-old Waupaca girl. She was not injured.

Responding deputies and Gold Cross Ambulance personnel attempted to resuscitate the pedestrian but were unsuccessful.

The Waupaca County Coroner’s Office pronounced the man dead at the scene.

Names of the pedestrian and the driver have not been released pending an investigation.

Sgt. Andy Thorpe, with the Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office, said investigators are trying to determine what factors, such as speed or alcohol, may have contributed to the accident.
