Sex charges filed

A man on probation for sexual assault is now accused of molesting a 13-year-old girl.

Jonathan Cardoso, 24, is charged with second-degree sexual assault of a child, child enticement and exposing his intimate parts to a child.

He faces up to 40 years in prison if convicted of sexual assault.

On May 31, a 13-year-old girl told Waupaca Police Officer Diana Flatoff that she and two other girls, ages 16 and 12, met a man she knew as “Chico” at Hidden Park.

According to the criminal complaint, Chico invited the girls to his residence on the 500 block of South Washington Street.

After they arrived, he took the girl into his bedroom where they allegedly had sexual contact.

Flatoff spoke to another 13-year-old girl who had also seen Chico at the park. She reportedly said Chico had been drinking and was “touchy” with the girls.

She said she also knew Chico as “Jay Osario.” She showed the officer Osario’s Facebook page.

Flatoff recognized the page’s profile photo as Cardoso due to his prior encounters with law enforcement.

Flatoff interviewed a 14-year-old girl who said Chico’s real name was Jonathan Cardoso. She had cellphone photos of Chico that Flatoff recognized as Cardoso.

It is not clear when the alleged sexual assault occurred. The criminal complaint lists the incident as occurring between April 1 and May 6.

On Jan. 9, Cardoso was convicted of misdemeanor sexual assault, amended from felony sexual assault of a child, for a May 2016 incident, and of felony bail jumping for a September 2016 incident.

Judge Raymond Huber placed Cardoso on three years of probation.

As conditions of probation, Huber sentenced Cardoso to 120 days in jail with 109 days credit for time in custody on a $5,000 cash bond. The judge also ordered Cardoso to have no contact with minors without written approval from his agent, participate in sex offender treatment and maintain absolute sobriety.

Cardoso was in temporary placement for probationers at the Washington Street home from April 10 to May 6.

He is scheduled for an initial court appearance on Aug. 8.
