Stabe, Maurice E.

Maurice E. Stabe, age 86, of Waupaca, WI passed away on Thursday, August 31, 2017 at Bethany Home.

Maurie was born in Antigo, WI, September 28, 1930, the son of the late Ernest and Laura (Schoettler) Stabe. On September 30, 1972 Maurie married Darlene Kieffer at Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church in Waupaca. At a young age he worked with his Dad building homes and was also a telegraph operator for the railroad. During the Korean War, Maurie served in the US Army. After graduating from UW-Madison, Maurie went to work for WPS as a gas rate engineer, retiring after 33 years. While living in Green Bay, he was a member of Atonement Lutheran Church, serving on the church council and as President. After moving to Waupaca, he served on the Bethany Home Board of Directors, was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, serving on church council. Maurie was smart, witty, likable and strong and always had a big hearty wave and hello for everyone.

He will be sadly missed by his loving wife Darlene Stabe, Waupaca; his children: Ford Stabe, Madison; Amy (Scott) Thompson, Green Bay; Clark (Bobbie) Stabe, Zion, IL and Stacy (Keith) McKay, Green Bay; his grandchildren: Jessica, Michelle, Clark R., Paul, Peter, Sam, Audrey, Alicia, Mathew, Alex and Sarah; his great-grandchildren: Amanda, Brooke, Jack, Mason, Taryn, Etta and Otis. Maurie was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Maureen and his sister, Shirley.

Visitation will be at Trinity Lutheran Church, Waupaca on Thursday, September 7 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon followed immediately by the the Funeral Service. Reverend Andy Behrendt, officiating. Entombment will be on Friday, September 8, 10:30 a.m. at Nicolet Memorial Park, Green Bay. A memorial fund has been established in Maurie’s name. Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca is assisting the family with arrangements.

The family appreciates all the help that Pauline Darling and her Bethany Pines staff provided during Maurie and Darlene’s housing transition. A sincere thanks also to the Hospice staff who made us all feel at ease during a difficult time.
