T-Birds lose at home

Bears run away with the win

The Iola-Scandinavia Thunderbirds dropped a home game against the Bonduel Bears in Sept. 8 match up.

Both teams came into the game with a 3-0 record.

The Bears ran away with the win, defeating the T-Birds 47-20.

Bonduel was the first team to find the end zone when Jacob Banker connected with Parker Bohn for a touchdown. Elijah Mastey kicked the extra point and the Bears were up 7-0.

The Bears scored two more times in the second quarter. First, on a 17-yard run from Jordan Boldt, then again on a 42-yard run from Mastey.

Bonduel had scored 20 points before the T-Birds were able to get on the board.

Ethan Olson scored the first touchdown for Iola-Scandinavia when he fell on a fumbled ball in the end zone. Olson went on to kick the extra point to bring the score to 20-7.

The final score of the half came from Bonduel. Banker ran the ball in from the 1-yard line, sending the Bears to the locker room with a 27-7 lead in the game.

The T-Birds started the second half out strong when Connor Kurki passed the ball to his brother Carter for a T-Bird touchdown.

With a failed kicking attempt the Bears still held the lead in the game with a score of 27-13.

The T-Birds could not maintain their momentum and the Bears began to run away with the game, scoring once in the third quarter and two more times in the fourth, putting them up 47-13.

Carter Kurki scored late in the fourth quarter for Iola-Scandinavia, but it was not enough and Bonduel took home the 47-20 win.

The T-Birds had a total of 204 yards in the game.

Carter Kurki completed 9 of 17 passes for 104 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.

Connor Kurki lead in rushing with 42 yards.

Bonduel put 440 yards in the books; 399 on the ground and 41 in the air.

Parker Bohm completed four of six passes for 30 yards, one touchdown. Jordan Boldt completed two of six for 11 yards and a touchdown.

Mastey topped the rushing for the Bears with 202 yards.

Iola-Scandinavia will travel to Manawa on Friday, Sept. 15, to take on the Wolves. Kickoff will be at 7 p.m.
