The Waupaca Area Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring its 12th annual Scarecrow Contest.

Local businesses will create and display scarecrows for which the public may vote by making donations.

Donations may be placed into paint cans attached to each scarecrow’s frame. One cent equals one vote.

Proceeds will go to the Waupaca Area Food Pantry.

The scarecrow that collects the most money wins the contest.

Participating businesses have a chance to win up a $500 advertising package compliments of Waupaca County Post, Waupaca Area Chamber of Commerce, Waupaca Buyers’ Guide, WDUX AM 800/FM 92.7, WSPT 97.9, WPCN B104.9 and 92.1 and 1010, Muzzy Broadcasting.

Votes will be accepted Oct. 14-31. Voting cans will be collected Nov. 1.

The winning scarecrow will be announced Nov. 3 on the chamber’s Facebook page.

Last year’s winner was Faulks Bros. Construction.

To participate, businesses must register by Sept. 22, pay a $30 refundable deposit on the scarecrow frame and provide a $25 gift certificate to be included in a drawing for the public.

The public can enter a drawing for the gift certificate packages. No purchase is required.

Drawing slips and collection pails will be placed in each participating business and the Waupaca Area Chamber of Commerce office, 221 S. Main St. The winners will be contacted by phone on Nov. 3.

Businesses that want to participate in the Scarecrow Contest should contact Kathy at 715-258-7343 or [email protected].
