It didn’t take long for Iola-Scandinavia’s football team to make a statement in its first-round playoff game.
The Thunderbirds scored six touchdowns in the first quarter and went on to hand Mishicot a 49-7 defeat Oct. 20 in a WIAA Division 6 game at Thunderbird Field.
The top-seeded T-Birds will now host No. 5 Crivitz at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27, in Level 2. The Wolverines knocked off No. 4 Wabeno/Laona 19-6 in another Level 1 game.
Bryce Huettner and Ben Cady each found the end zone twice, while teammates Ed Bonikowske and Connor Kurki added a touchdown each.
Neither team scored in the second quarter, but Cady scored on a 51-yard run 21 seconds into the second half.
Mishicot’s touchdown came on Nate Driscoll’s 27-yard pass to Zach Skubal.
Huettner needed only 11 carries to gain 241 yards, while Cady added 95 yards on three rushes.
The T-Birds ran for 372 yards while holding the Indians to only 165 yards of total offense.
Sawyer Young led Mishicot with 12 carries for 31 yards.
Iola-Scandinavia completed only one pass for 10 yards, while Driscoll completed 14 of 25 passes for 123 yards.
