Springs scores four unanswered TDs

The Iola-Scandinavia Thunderbirds lost to St. Mary’s Springs 35-12 Thursday, Nov. 16, in the Division 6 WIAA state football championship in Madison.
Iola-Scandinavia was first to strike when Bryce Huettner ran the ball in for a touchdown, with the extra point failing the T-Birds took a 6-0 lead in the game.
St Mary’s Springs answered with a touchdown of their own. Mitch Waechter connected with Cade Christiansen for the score and Levi Poss kicked the ball to put the Ledgers up 6-7, ending the scoring for the first quarter.
Huettner ran for another TD in the first half and put the T-Birds ahead 12-7.
Late in the first half, Huettner fumbled the ball inside the Springs’ 30-yard line, which was followed by another Ledgers’ touchdown.
The first half ended with the T-Birds behind the Ledgers at 14-12.
In the second half, Springs outscored Iola-Scandinavia 21-0.
Iola-Scandinavia gained 248 rushing and 33 yards passing for a total of 281 yards.
St. Mary’s Springs had 266 yards on the ground and 180 in the air for a game total of 442 yards.
