Second-half lead slips away

Menominee Indian handed Iola-Scandinavia a 50-43 loss Dec. 4 in a matchup of Central Wisconsin Conference East Division girls’ basketball teams.
The teams went into the locker room at halftime tied at 20-20, but the Eagles outscored the Thunderbirds 30-23 in the second half.
The T-Birds built an 11-point lead in the second half, but missed 18 of 24 free throws and had 30 turnovers.
Bryanna Kisting led the T-Birds with 15 points and added seven rebounds and five steals. Hannah Melum added 11 points, with nine of them coming on three three-pointers. Payton Wester chipped in with eight points and seven rebounds and Kaitlyn Miller finished with a team-high nine rebounds and four assists.
Mercedes Waupoose led the Eagles with 15 points, including four three-pointers, as Menominee Indian improved to 4-1 and 1-0 in division play. The T-Birds fell to 0-1 in the division and 2-2 overall.
Iola-Scandinavia will travel to Wittenberg-Birnamwood Friday, Dec. 8, to face the Chargers at 7 p.m.
