Kenneth Hurst passed away peacefully on the morning of January 15th, in Waupaca, WI at the age of 86.
Ken was born the second child and oldest son of Reverend Kenneth and Gladys Hurst. He graduated from Park High School Racine, WI; Carthage College, Carthage, IL; and the University of Wisconsin Medical School, Madison, WI. He married Marlys Dokmo at St. Luke’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Park Ridge, IL. Following his medical internship, he served in the US Navy for two years and then went on to live and work in Naperville, IL for 33 years. Ken and Marlys then retired to the Waupaca area. Ken especially enjoyed eating out with family and friends and working with his model railroads. He was a lifelong avid Green Bay Packers and Badgers fan and coached youth football for seven years. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Waupaca.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister JoAnne and nephew David. Ken is survived and will be deeply missed by Marlys, his wife of 63 years; his four children, Kenneth, Carl, Eric, and Susan; seven grandchildren, Hayley, Michelle, Daniel, Leah, Shannon, Katherine, and Brooke; great-grandson, Owen; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Rich and Judy Dokmo; and nieces, Lee Ann, Maren, Julie and Laura.
The family would like to thank the staff at Bethany Home and the pastoral staff at Trinity Lutheran Church for their excellent compassionate care.
A memorial service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Waupaca, WI, later this spring and will be announced by the family. The Holly Funeral Home of Waupaca is assisting the family with arrangements.
