Device falls from sky

Waupaca County deputies found an unusual object while patrolling the Wolf River Wednesday afternoon.

The officers were on snowmobile patrol south of Gill’s Landing in rural Weyauwega when they came upon a GPS tracking device that appeared to be connected to a chute.

The device was part of a research project for a company and had been deployed from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, earlier in the day, according to the sheriff’s office.

There was minimal damage to the device and nobody was injured as a result of the device landing on the river.
