Guns stolen in burglary

Two men with prior felonies face new charges.

Nathan Lee Kobs, 29, Clintonville, and Brandon D. Ehlke, 22, Weyauwega, are charged with three counts of burglary and three counts of theft.

On Feb. 16, Detective Sgt. Carl Artz investigated three burglaries from the previous night in the village of Embarrass.

A resident of the 100 block of Grand Avenue reported that someone broke into his workshop and stole three shotguns, a camo backpack with knives and flashlights, a cordless drill and fishing rods.
Investigators found DNA evidence in a small amount of blood at the scene.

Two more burglaries were also reported on the 100 block of Main Street. Power tools, wrenches and other tools were stolen.

On Feb. 16, Shawano police stopped a vehicle near a convenience store and arrested Kobs and Ehlke after they found three shotguns, fishing rods and several tools in the vehicle.

Kobs is currently in custody on a $5,000 cash bond in Shawano County, where he was charged on Feb. 20 with a second drunken driving offense, operating after revocation, resisting an officer and four counts of felon in possession of a firearm.

Shawano County Circuit Court sentenced Kobs to five years in prison on Sept. 21, 2011, for second-degree sexual assault of a child.

On June 14, 2017, Kobs was convicted of a first drunken driving offense in Waupaca County. He was ordered to install an ignition interlock device for one year and his license was revoked for eight months.

On Nov. 1, 2017, Kobs was charged in Waupaca County with operating while revoked and tampering with an IID.

On Jan. 5, 2018, Kobs was charged with fleeing an officer, resisting an officer, operating while revoked and three counts of misdemeanor bail jumping in Shawano County He remained in custody on a $500 cash bond until he was released on a $2,500 signature bond on Feb. 2.

Following his Feb. 16 arrest in Shawano County, Ehlke was charged with four counts of felon in possession of a firearm and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Ehlke was sentenced to six months in jail with work release privileges after he was convicted for burglary in Shawano County on April 6, 2016.

On Aug. 3, 2016, Ehlke was convicted in Shawano County of criminal escape and misdemeanor bail jumping and sentenced to 135 days in jail, to run consecutively to the remainder of his prior sentence.

Ehlke was released from custody in Shawano County after posting a $2,500 cash bond.
