Felony OWI charged

Driver found asleep in running car

Steven J. Hudy, 51, New London, is charged with a fifth drunken driving offense.

On Sunday, April 22, Iola Police Sgt. Paul Zierler found Hudy sleeping in the driver’s seat of his pickup truck.

According to the criminal complaint, the truck was in gear and its engine was running. It was also stuck in the snow.

Zierler reported Hudy had red, glassy eyes, smelled of alcohol and fell over when he exited the truck.

A preliminary breath test indicated Hudy had a blood-alcohol level of .199.

Hudy was released from custody after posting a $2,000 cash bond with the conditions that he not consume alcohol, not drive a vehicle and comply with the jail’s Soberlink monitoring system.
