Thunderbirds score 12 runs in second inning

A 12-run inning helped the Iola-Scandinavia softball team pick up its first win of the season.
The Thunderbirds came up with 12 runs in the second inning May 1 in an 18-3 Central Wisconsin Conference East Division victory over Menominee Indian in Iola.
I-S opened the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the first inning, but took a 14-0 lead into the third after scoring 12 times in the second.
The Eagles cut into the lead with three runs in the third, but the T-Birds wrapped up the scoring with a run in the third and three more in the fourth.
Erin Charles scored four runs, while Mackenzie Kielblock and Hannah Melum scored three times. Charles and Olivia Schustek drove in a team-high four runs each.
Kielblock struck out eight batters to get the win on the mound.
