Comets win at home

Waupaca gets softball split

Waupaca and Oconto Falls split a pair of North Eastern Conference softball games.

Waupaca picked up a 5-3 win May 1 in Waupaca, while the Panthers beat the Comets 4-1 May 3 on the Panthers’ home field.

Emma Huberty drove in three runs for the Panthers.

Both teams scored a run in the first inning, but Oconto Falls added one more in the third and two in the fifth while outhitting the Comets 7-6.

Waupaca 5, Oconto Falls 3
The teams entered the seventh inning tied at 3-3, but Waupaca came up with two runs in the bottom of the frame.

Ireland Grenlie and Maddie Rhodes each had two of the Comets’ seven hits, while Anna Ryder drove in three runs. Grenlie gave up 10 hits, but also struck out eight batters to get the win on the mound.

The Comets will head to Little Chute for a North Eastern doubleheader at 4 p.m. Friday, May 11.
