Area athletes qualify for state

New London to compete in 5 events

The New London track and field team will be represented in five state events after their performances at the Division 2 Freedom Sectional on Thursday, May 24.

The WIAA State Track and Field Championships will be held in La Crosse on Friday, June 1 and Saturday, June 2.

Mackenzie Monty will compete in two events for the Bulldogs. She finished third in the discus throw (120-00) and fourth in the shot put (37-03.00) to advance.

New London’s Max Krause finished in third place in the boys’ 400-meter dash in 50.99 to qualify for state, and Brayden Kurth placed fourth in the long jump (20-07.75) to advance.

The Bulldogs qualified for the 4×800 meter relay event despite finishing fifth. They earned an extra qualifier spot for finishing in the top eight of all sectionals with a time of 8:15.50.

New London athletes on the relay team include Krause, Jeff Smolinski, Noah Schiedermayer and Riley Titterton.

In the same sectional, Clintonville’s Allysin Booth qualified for state in two events with the girls’ 100-meter hurdles and high jump.

Booth set a new school record and won the 100-meter hurdles race in 14.95. She also finished third in the high jump with a 5-00.00 score to advance.

Ashwaubenon Sectional

Hortonville’s Aliza Van Den Elzen qualified for state in the high jump during the Division 1 Ashwaubenon Sectional on Thursday, May 24.

Van Den Elzen reached 5-04.00 in the high jump for first place in the event.

The top three athletes qualify for state in Division 1, and the Polar Bears finished fourth in four events.

Peter Van Wyk placed fourth in the boys’ long jump, Josh Giese finished fourth in the 200-meter dash, Breylin Soto was fourth in the shot put and the 4×800 meter relay team came in fourth place.
