Betty May O’Donnell, age 87, of Hortonville, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 27, 2018 at Willow Lane in Appleton.
Betty was born on March 15, 1931to the late Frank and Louise (Standke) Kersten. Betty went to school at Lincoln Elementary School and Washington High School in New London, where she was valedictorian of both. While in high school, Betty worked at First State Bank in New London. She was united in marriage to Tom O’Donnell on June 17, 1953 at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church in New London. They lived in Manawa and Appleton and then moved to Hortonville. Betty worked at Kimberly Clark prior to them buying Gambles Store in Hortonville, which later became Hardware Hank. Betty and Tom owned and operated the store for 33 years. She also enjoyed volunteering at the food pantry, cooking and sewing. She was a member of Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Hortonville.
Betty is survived by a son; a daughter and son-in-law, Lori (Tim) Meyer, Kimberly and three grandchildren, Maxwel, Megan and Gage. She is further survived by a niece, Sharon and her daughter, Kerry and children and other relatives and friends. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband and brother, Victor Kersten.
The funeral service for Betty will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 1, 2018 at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Hortonville. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 31, 2018 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Borchardt Moder Funeral Home in Hortonville and again from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service at the church Friday. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in the Town of Little Wolf. A memorial fund has been established.
