Bus driver recognized

Going above and beyond

By Holly Neumann

The Manawa School Board recognized bus driver Ken Ziereis for going above and beyond to make bus rides memorable for his passengers during its May meeting.

According to Board President Joanne Johnson, Ziereis recently drove a field trip bus that transported students with disabilities.

“Sometimes this can be difficult and lonely for students to ride this special bus, with only a few of their friends,” said Johnson. “Mr. Ziereis’ fun-loving, humorous personality keeps all the passengers happy. He is described as a truly compassionate and caring driver. Thanks for going to extra mile to make sure everyone’s ride is safe and fun.”

Also recognized by the board was Brooklyn Wepner, who has been accepted into the two-week Kentucky State University Ag Discovery Program.

“Brooklyn is a career-driven young woman, with a particular interest in the equine area,” said Johnson. “This is fabulous opportunity her, to learn with and surround herself with people immersed in a common subject matter.”

In other business the board accepted the resignation Social Studies Teacher Aime Long. Long has decided to pursue opportunities at a larger school district and has accepted another teaching position.

Fall coaching contracts for 2018-19 School Year were approved.

Darren Carson will serve as the head varsity coach of the cross country team, with Eric Duhn as the assistant coach and Teri Schernecker will head the middle school team.

Ali Dean will be the jv head volleyball coach and Aubrie Millard the eighth-grade coach.

Skylar Liebzeit will be the head football coach for the 2018-19 season.
